Coupled Mg/Ca and Clumped Isotope Measurements Indicate Lack of Substantial Mixed Layer Cooling in the Western Pacific Warm Pool During the Last ?5 Million Years

چکیده
The Indo-Pacific Warm Pool (IPWP) plays a crucial role in influencing climate dynamics both the tropics and globally. Yet, there is an ongoing controversy concerning evolution of surface temperatures IPWP since Pliocene, which fueled by contradictory proxy evidence. Temperature reconstructions using TEX86 indicate gradual cooling ?2°C from Pliocene to today while Mg/Ca-based studies planktonic foraminifera do not report any long-term trends. A bias Mg/Ca records due seawater chemistry changes has been suggested as explanation for this mismatch. Here, we present data two independent foraminifera-based temperature proxies, clumped isotopes (?47), measured on same samples IODP Site U1488 IPWP. We reconstructed mixed layer subsurface find very good agreement among ?47 when applying minor correction changing ratios seawater. Diagenetic effects could influence but evaluation preservation at suggests that effect unlikely have masked trend data. While remaining uncertainties prevent us fully ruling out particular hypotheses, our study adds evidence likely did cool substantially, cooled more strongly Pliocene. substantial Pleistocene previously observed consistent with finding interpreting it combined signal.

Hydroclimate of the western Indo-Pacific Warm Pool during the past 24,000 years.
The Indo-Pacific Warm Pool (IPWP) is a key site for the global hydrologic cycle, and modern observations indicate that both the Indian Ocean Zonal Mode (IOZM) and the El Niño Southern Oscillation exert strong influence on its regional hydrologic characteristics. Detailed insight into the natural range of IPWP dynamics and underlying climate mechanisms is, however, limited by the spatial and tem...
متن کاملClimate and hydrographic variability in the Indo-Pacific Warm Pool during the last millennium
[1] Planktonic foraminiferal Mg/Ca and dO derived sea surface temperature and salinity records from the Makassar Strait, Indonesia, show a long-term cooling and freshening trend, as well as considerable centennial-scale variability during the last millennium. The warmest temperatures and highest salinities occurred during the Medieval Warm Period (MWP), while the coolest temperatures and lowest...

in the present study, the effect of e-64 at different concentrations (0.5, 1, 5 and 10 µm) added to (1) the ivm medium on oocyte nuclear maturation and developmental competence of ovine oocytes, and (2) to the ivc medium on embryonic development of ovine embryos were investigated.
Episodic Trade Wind Regimes over the Western Pacific Warm Pool
The western Pacific warm pool experiences the greatest rainfall of any oceanic region on earth. While the SST is everywhere high over the warm pool, there is great spatial and temporal variability in rainfall. Sounding data from the recent TOGA COARE are used to document this variability. In particular, the vertical distributions of heating and moistening at different phases of the 30–60 day or...
